Neither Shall They Learn War Any More
Categories: Merely Musing

I know you’ve probably already seen this, but I feel like the mental, emotional, physical, social sacrifices of war are so great it is our duty to not look away.

There is something about the military that fascinates me. I tear up every time I listen to that blasted Dixie Chicks song, “Travelin’ Soldier” or the one of BYU choirs renditions of “The Dying Solider” (yeah, I have a couple of Dixie Chicks songs on my phone, you can beat me up later). I guess it is because I am and have been the age that most of our soldiers are at the time of those incredible sacrifices that somethingresonates within me towards these men and women who are maimed, traumatized, and killed in our behalf, in my behalf as a citizen of the United States.

It is our duty to not look away.

It reminds me of one of the most riveting pieces of film I have ever seen. Bill Moyers previewed clips from a 2009 documentary called “The Good Solider” recounting the experiences of veterans from Iraq, Vietnam, and WWII. Below is only a taste of an incredible moving film (some graphic descriptions contained).

***To my benevolent employer, this was also written the night before and simply scheduled to post today. No blogging on the job for me, no Sir!***
