Your Sperm Don’t Like Your Nalgene or Canned Green Beans
Categories: Merely Musing

***Not to my benevolent employer: this post was written last time and timed to post at this time. I’m not blogging on the clock, don’t worry***

Well, looks like my mother-in-law was right: BPA in plastics, canned-food cans, and baby bottles probably is bad for you, especially if you’re a sperm. Yes, BPA, which is found in most hard plastics labeled with a “7″ and in the lining in most canned foods is damaging sperm in humans, the first scientific study on humans concludes (only animals had been tested previously):

“We found that if we compare somebody in the top quartile of exposure with the lowest quartile of exposure [to BPA], sperm concentration was on average about 23 percent lower in men with the highest BPA,” Meeker said.

Results also suggested a 10 percent increase in sperm DNA damage.

Especially if you have an infant or toddler look for bottles that are BPA-free (thanks again mom). You Nalgene drinkers should probably look for something BPA free. Buy your canned foods fresh or frozen if you can. Oh, and don’t heat up plastic in the microwave, it’s heat that releases the chemical.

You’re sperm will thank you.

I guess when the Lastest Days arrive and I'm living in the mountains on nothing but my canned food storage I'll be glad to have my husband's sperm conveniently obliterated. I don't wanna birth no babies in the woods.
